Autistic and Catatonic Spectrum Symptoms in Patients with Borderline Personality Disorder

Background: Recent literature has shown that a considerable percentage of patients with severe mental disorders can develop, over time, full-blown or subthreshold catatonia. Some studies corroborate the model an illness trajectory in which different would be arranged along continuum severity until development In such pathway, autistic traits (AT) and borderline personality disorder (BPD) may represent important steps. order to further explore association between AT, BPD, catatonia, aim this study was compare catatonic spectrum symptoms AT among major depressive (MDD), healthy controls (CTL), also evaluating possible predictive dimensions diagnoses. Methods: A total 90 adults affected by diagnosis MDD, CTL, homogeneous terms gender age, were recruited from six Italian university departments psychiatry assessed SCID-5-RV, Catatonia Spectrum (CS), Adult Autism Subthreshold (AdAS Spectrum). Results: The CS score significantly higher BPD MDD groups than CTL group, while majority domain scores group scored group. AdAS turn domains “psychomotor activity” “impulsivity”, “verbal communication”, “empathy”, “hyper-/hyporeactivity sensory input” associated risk presenting BPD.
